The facts, without the panic

AI will change most jobs. It will not erase most people.

The research points the same way: tasks change faster than jobs disappear, and people who learn to work with AI earn more. That is where hope comes from, and it is backed by data.

Career check-up

Map my job's AI exposure

I work as a [job title] in [industry]. List the 10 tasks that take most of my week, estimate what share of my time each takes, and for each one say whether AI can already do it, help me do it faster, or barely touch it. Finish with the three tasks I should hand to AI first and the three I should invest in getting better at.

Career check-up

Find adjacent careers

My current role is [job title] and my strongest skills are [skills]. Suggest 5 adjacent roles that use most of these skills but are less exposed to AI automation. For each, list the skill gap, a realistic timeline to close it and one free way to start this week.

Career check-up

Stress-test a career move

I'm considering moving from [current role] to [target role]. Argue against this move as strongly as you honestly can, then argue for it. End with the three questions I should answer before deciding and who I could ask.

FAQ

Questions people ask us

Will AI take my job?

For most people, AI will change the job rather than remove it. The World Economic Forum expects 170 million new jobs and 92 million displaced jobs by 2030, a net gain. The real risk is staying in a role whose routine tasks get automated without building the skills that remain valuable. Our job checker shows which of your tasks are most exposed.

What does the AI exposure score mean?

It estimates the share of a typical working week spent on tasks that current AI tools can perform or speed up, from 0 to 100. It is not a probability of losing your job. We also split exposure into automation (AI can do the task) and augmentation (AI helps you do it better).

Is AI Hope free?

Yes. The checker, job reports, learning paths, prompt library and career plan are free. The site is funded by advertising, partners and reader donations to the Hope Fund.

Which jobs are safest from AI?

Jobs built on physical work, care, trust and accountability are least exposed: caregivers, construction workers, electricians, plumbers, nurses and therapists score lowest in our checker. Many of these roles are also growing.

What is the first AI skill I should learn?

Learn to use a general AI assistant well: giving it context, asking for structured output and checking its work. It helps in almost every job and takes days, not months. Elements of AI and Anthropic's AI Fluency course are free places to start.
